PLAY - Culture
If it’s culture you’re looking for then look no further. There is a rich offering all around the Hilldrop Estate for you to indulge in.
Bath
The Roman Town of Bath is about an hour’s drive. Parking is a challenge, but the town is very special. The Roman Baths are clearly worth a visit.
Stonehenge and Avebury
Stonehenge is more impressive and historically more important than the Avebury Stone Circle, but Stonehenge is a honey pot for tourists and difficult to enjoy. However, it maybe on your bucket list and if so English Heritage has details on both.
The Ridgeway walk into Avebury
For those of you looking for a challenge. Why not walk the Ridgeway, being Britain’s oldest road, starting just above Hilldrop and walking to Avebury, via Barbury Castle. The walk is about 8 miles, say 3 hours, and is truly stunning. There is a pub at Avebury and with a bit of forward planning, pre-ordering a taxi home, and you have a great day out.
Oxford
The University town of Oxford is enchanting with culture around every corner.
Woodstock & Blenheim
Blenheim Palace should need no introduction but Woodstock being the enchanting village adjacent might. Have lunch at the Feathers and then take a tour of the Palace which is quite something: www.blenheimpalace.com
